A former Teaching Assistant has set up a webpage and an instagram account with activities that take 5 minutes to set up and put away.
Our favourites are The Shop, Number thief, Toy Tombola and some from her Instagram page such as a scavenger hunt where children take a gift bag outside and find things from a list you have created for them. You can play Bingo, looking for certain letters or numbers in our favourite books and Pairs (hiding the double from a game of Snap around the house, showing them the double and them looking for it around the room.
Box Road- Flatten out a box and draw a road in marker. Add blocks, trucks and other toys for kids to build a city.
Toy-Washing Bin – Let your kids wash their plastic toys. Add tear-free bubbles, sponges, towels and other supplies.
Junk Art – Find some recycled materials and let your kids paint them. Could you make a musical instrument?
Sticky Match-Up – Draw shapes, letters, numbers, words or math problems on sticky notes and hide them around the house for your child to find. Then have the child match them up on a “key” that hangs on the wall.
Jigsaw Station- If you have old jigsaws or Lego sets, assign a table or area where they can be left out so your child can do a bit and then go back to them. This type of activity helps them to focus their concentration.
Dressing up box for Role Play- Get an old box and fill it with your old clothes and any costumes the children have. Is there a story book you could link the costume to?
