The Christmas Play
Stella the farmer from 'Farm on Wheels' came to visit us, and she brought some of her farm animals with her.
They were animals from the Christmas story. We saw a donkey, a sheep, chickens, a rat, and a turkey.
Our parents came to watch us sing songs we had learnt.
We made our parents and teachers very proud.
What a wonderful day.
Poppy Day
The children used printing to make their own poppies. They wore them with pride on Remembrance Day. We talked about why people wear poppies and what they remember on this day.
Exploring pumpkins.
We looked at Pumpkins and winter squash. The children all had ideas about what we might find inside: seeds, slippy - like a banana skin and even a suggestion that we might find dinosaurs inside!
Pumpkin Soup
The children became a chef for a day! They explored herbs and spices and decided what they would add to their soup to make it delicious.
We have enjoyed sharing the Owl Babies story and did lots of activities about the story and about owls.
We have had some beautiful weather to start the term off! We made the most of a sunny day to enjoy a nature walk. The end of summer / early autumn bounty meant that the children were very excited to find apples growing on trees and blackberries were growing in the brambles! We have one apple tree on the Squirrel School site which fell down in storms a couple of years ago, fortunately the tree is still alive and producing apples! This means the children can get a close up experience to the tree which would normally be out of reach for them.
In the Spring, the children who were at The Nest planted some seeds in our vegetable patch. This term, the current group of children explored what was growing. They found some interesting leaves, they did some digging and some pulling and found carrots!
We then had lots of lovely little carrots. The children decided they would like to eat them for snack time. They had a lot of scrubbing to do first!
